EXPLORING JEWISH VALUES FOR EVERYDAY LIFE THROUGH THE TALMUD
Classes postponed until after the holidays
Jewish tradition teaches us that the Torah by itself is not Judaism. It is only through interpretation and study that we access the true genius and meaning of its stories.
Yohanan Lowen will continue his popular Talmud classes by focusing on the inspiring ethical teachings of the great sages of the Babylonian Talmud including Rav Hisda,
Abba Aricha, Samuel of Nehardea and Mar Ukva.
The course will be offered on a weekly basis, Mondays at noon.
Registration fee for the 8 classes is $72, and $100 for non-members.

APPLE-PICKING FOR ROSH HA-SHANAH: FAMILIES AND YOUTH GROUP

We join Federation CJA's TOV program in picking apples both for ourselves and for tzedakah, for charity. Drop off the apples you pick for charity with the TOV volunteers at the picnic area. Meet up with other Dorshei Emet families at the picnic area at noon for lunch - look for our sign! Please bring your own picnic lunch and cash for purchasing apples that you pick. Admission to the farm is $5 per person, plus cost of apples. RSVP to Yana in the office, admin@dorshei-emet.org or (514) 486-9400.

TZEDEK FAMILIES: A FAMILY SOCIAL JUSTICE PROGRAM
Six meetings throughout the year

Spend quality time with your children while passing on Jewish values of social justice, responsibility, and caring! Join Tzedek Families, a new family learning program of Congregation Dorshei Emet. In six family days throughout the 2014-2015 year, Tzedek Families will gather to learn about Jewish social justice values associated with the year cycle and upcoming holidays, while doing community service connected to those values. Social, experiential, and supportive, Tzedek Families builds community around shared values. Students can receive credit for community service hours. FORMING A JEWISH ENRICHMENT CLASS FOR KIDS AGE 5-7
Doshei Emet parents of kids about 5 to 7+ years old are forming a weekly Jewish enrichment class to learn more that we can cover during Family Shabbat, including some Hebrew letters and vocabulary, blessings, Judaica and holiday/biblical stories.  The class would be taught by an experienced teacher of this material who has extensive experience in Montreal with this kind of program. We would meet weekly starting some time next month. GUESS WHO'S COMING TO SHABBAT? (GWCTS)
Friday, October 10th - All over Montreal
Our flagship community building program is back. GWCTS partners congregants with one another for Shabbat dinners in their own homes. The program has two goals: First, to strengthen the synagogue community: we ask you to invite someone you don't know very well and to form a new friendship. Second, to help families build meaningful Shabbat memories. The first dinner will be during Sukkot; whether or not you have a sukkah, share the holiday experience with other members of the congregation. 11:30 gathering, 12:00pm marching in parade
We're looking for musicians, shofar blowers, and people who like to walk to join our fellow Hampstead Jews from the Adath to march in the Hampstead Centennial Parade! We're looking for at least a dozen congregants to participate to show our presence in Hampstead over the last 55 years and to proudly carry our banner. We'll also have honey sticks and apple stickers to hand out to the crowd. Feel free to wear costumes relating to Rosh Ha-Shanah - bees, apples, and shofars welcome!
Do you have a convertible that might be able to participate in the parade? We have some members who would like to be part of the Dorshei team but are not able to walk the whole parade. APPLE-PICKING FOR ROSH HA-SHANAH: FAMILIES AND YOUTH GROUP

Pick apples to use for Rosh Ha-Shanah, when it is a tradition to have apples dipped in honey to wish for a sweet new year!  We join Federation CJA's TOV program in picking apples both for ourselves and for tzedakah, for charity. Drop off the apples you pick for charity with the TOV volunteers at the picnic area. Meet up with other Dorshei Emet families at the picnic area at noon for lunch - look for our sign! Please bring your own picnic lunch and cash for purchasing apples that you pick. Admission to the farm is $5 per person, plus cost of apples. RSVP to Yana in the office,

Spend quality time with your children while passing on Jewish values of social justice, responsibility, and caring! Join Tzedek Families, a new family learning program of Congregation Dorshei Emet. In six family days throughout the 2014-2015 year, Tzedek Families will gather to learn about Jewish social justice values associated with the year cycle and upcoming holidays, while doing community service connected to those values. Social, experiential, and supportive, Tzedek Families builds community around shared values. Students can receive credit for community service hours. Every month, members from Dorshei Emet volunteer to serve meals at Le Café, a local initiative offering free Kosher meals to the community.  Every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30pm-6:30pm, volunteers gather at the Cummings Centre for Seniors on Westbury to serve hot meals to those in need.  Each evening, over 250 meals are served.   If you would like to volunteer to help, please contact Gloria Doskie gloria.doskie@videotron.ca, or contact the office (514) 486-9400.

The Program brings together a group of young leaders from Canada and around the world to live and work together and to share their personal passion for addressing a particular globally significant challenge. Participants bring to the Program their own expertise and perspectives, shaped by their experiences working to address this issue in their respective contexts, communities and countries.
