LEARNER'S SHABBAT MORNING SERVICE
This Saturday, October 25
10:00-12:00pm in the Social Hall
New to Judaism or newly returning? Want to brush up on Shabbat morning service order and meanings, or just enjoy more questions and discussion during services? Join this year's PBM families for a special Learner's Service led by Rabbi Julia. We'll learn the basic parts of a Jewish prayer service that are common to all services, prayer choreography (when do I stand and sit and why?), Dorshei Emet traditions, and more. Learn tunes or jump in with questions - we're all in this together. Everyone is welcome to attend.

DORSHEI 20's AND 30's SCHMOOZE

What do you want from your shul? How can Dorshei better foster community for members in their 20s and 30s? Part of our yearlong Reimagining Dorshei Emet initiative; it's an informal evening of shmoozing and refreshments with a purpose. Meet (or re-meet!) other Dorshei members in their 20's and 30's, find out about hands-on projects and social opportunities, and get yourself heard. Share your ideas with peers and with Rabbi Ron, Rabbi Julia, and Synagogue President Eada Rubinger.

MEET URI GOPHER OF THE HAGAR SCHOOL

Hear from Uri Gopher, Director of the Hagar School, in Beer Sheba Israel and Anwar Alhjooj, a "founding father" of the school. This is an opportunity to learn more about the Hagar School and its vision for a shared furute for Arabs and Jews. Light refreshments will be served. HAGBAH TRAINING WORKSHOP- COMING SOON TO A BIMAH NEAR YOU!
We will be offering a Hagbah Training Workshop. Hagbah is the honour given to a member whereby he or she lifts the Torah after it has been read and shows the Hebrew script to the congregation.  Since the Torah may be heavy there is a technique to lifting the Torah which greatly facilitates this honor. All members are welcome.  This may be of particular interest to young adults. No experience required. The workshop will be given by Roger Antebi. Time and date to be confirmed.

Join us for a half hour of silent meditation starting at 9:30, prior to the Morning Service at 10.  A few of us tried it last week and found that it added a lot to our davenning experience. Try it, you may like it.

FIRST FAMILY SHABBAT OF THE YEAR - "OUR ROLE IN CREATION" 
October 18, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Primarily ages 3-10. Registration is encouraged, but not required. Registering helps us plan our supplies! Twice monthly, families gather in our upstairs Children's Activity Room for Family Shabbat Service and a fun and engaging Jewish learning experience, led by Rabbi Julia and educator Brady Winrob. Families are encouraged to attend the first thirty minutes of the main sanctuary service from 10:00 am - 10:30 am, so that their children can parade around the sanctuary with the Torah before heading upstairs.
10:30am - Family Service, led by Rabbi Julia, including song, movement, and storytelling.
11:15am - We explore Jewish traditions and values, Shabbat and upcoming holidays, and the weekly Torah portion using interactive drama, stories, crafts, games, and discussion.
12:00 - Family Kiddush: make blessings together, enjoy a healthy snack and socialize.
12:15 - Main Sanctuary for the conclusion of services: Children share what they learned that morning and lead the congregation in Adon Olam, the concluding prayer of the service.

Learn with guest speaker Remi Attig, Program Coordinator of Teva Quebec, about the Jewish Outdoor, Food, and Environmental Education movement (JOFEE) and exciting developments in food and environmental sustainability happening today in Jewish communities across North America. Stay after Kiddush for a pickling workshop with Remy in the Sukkah, taking back ownership of the food production process and creating delicious, organic and locally sourced pickled vegetables for your Sukkot table. Teva Québec is the Québec Jewish coalition for the environment.  They examine the intersections between Jewish ethics and the values of environmentalism and sustainability.  Teva Quebec works to effect positive change on our local community through education, advocacy, and activism.

FORMING A JEWISH ENRICHMENT CLASS FOR KIDS AGE 5-7
Dorshei Emet parents of kids ages 5 to 7+ years old are forming a weekly Jewish enrichment class to learn more that we can cover during Family Shabbat. The class would be taught by an experienced teacher of this material who has extensive experience in Montreal with this kind of program. We would meet weekly starting some time next month.
